Hypopressive method combines a breathing technique with different poses. Initially developed as a non-surgical tretment for women with pelvic floor health issues, the technique has advanced into a complete core training system that benefits men and women of all ages and lifestyles.
Hypopressives have a lot of benefits for your health including:
- Treats and prevents Pelvic Organ Prolapse: Strong abdominals help to support the pelvic organs and release tension in the ligaments that support them. The apnea (breath-hold or vacuum) in hypopressives create a negative pressure in the pelvic cavity which helps the organs rise and return to their normal position.
- Treating and preventing urinary incontinence: These exercises strengthen the pelvic floor to prevent leakage and strengthen abdominals to help relieve the pressure on the area.
- Reducing the waistline: Hypopressives reduce the diameter of the waist and strengthen the abdomen without damaging the pelvic floor.
- Decreasing back pain: Hypopressives improve back posture, helping to prevent back pain.
- Improving sexual functions: Gaining muscle tone in the pelvic floor improves the sensations of sex and orgasms will become more powerful.
- Preventing disc and abdominal hernia: It improves the tone of the pelvic area without straining the neck and lumbar which often happens using the traditional abdominal exercises.
- Improving respiratory function: Increases breathing capacity
- Improving posture and balance
- Helps women both pre and post childbirth
The hypopressive apnea also known as vacuum breath, rib opening or rib stretch is the main feature of hypopressive exercise during which after exhalation, breath is held, the glottis is closed and the intercostal muscles are used to create inspiratory movement of the rib cage while the tummy remains relaxed. This causes a drawing up of the relaxed diaphragm with decreased pressure in the abdominal and pelvic cavity.
